ASA Bans
The Advertising Standards Authority has ruled that Samsung's use of "LED TV" to describe LED-backlit LCDs is "misleading."
Samsung has been roundly spanked by the Advertising Standards Authority, the UK's marketing self-regulatory body, for misleading claims that its latest range of displays are "LED TVs."
which advised consumers they were in for a treat thanks to "the ultra slim Samsung LED TV." As two fun-loving complainants pointed out, the only problem was the fact that it's a common or garden LCD screen.
The confusion - or misleading marketing, depending on whether you're Samsung or the ASA - comes from the fact that while the display technology powering the screens is LCD, the lighting uses LED technology rather than the more common cold cathode lamp
The ruling means that Samsung will no longer be allowed to refer to its screens as "LED TVs" in UK advertising - unless, you know, they actually are LED TVs - and neither will it be allowed to run its current adverts in their present form.
ASA bans Sky broadband press ad
The Advertising Standards Authority has banned a "misleading" press advertisement for Sky's broadband service following a complaint from BT.
Under the banner headline 'Reduce Your Costs Not Your Speed', the advert claimed that consumers in a Sky network area would not have their broadband speeds slowed down at peak time as they would with BT or Virgin Media.
In response, BT said that the statement was misleading because it implied that all BT users have their speeds slowed during peak times, when it fact this component of the fair usage policy only applies to "very heavy users".
The ASA noted that both BT and Virgin do operate fair usage policies on all their broadband services, whereas Sky Broadband Unlimited offers unlimited broadband in Sky network areas without restrictions on the bandwidth being used.
Last week, the ASA also ruled in favour of BT over another "misleading" Sky advert which promoted the potential savings available when switching landline and broadband services from BT.
ASA bans Mercedes-Benz environmental ad
The Advertising Standards Authority has ordered Mercedes-Benz to pull an advertisement because it exaggerated the level of CO2 emissions for the E-Class range.
The press advertisement claimed CO2 emissions for the range were "down to 139/km, which means it's better for the environment".
The model shown was the E250CDI Sport, which has emissions of 139g a kilometre.
Although a footnote stated the range's emissions went from 139g to 261g a kilometre, the regulator ruled that the headline implied that the whole range was low in emissions.
Following an investigation, it found that only two of a possible 24 E-Class cars corresponded with the emissions figures, warranting an E band in the Government's banding system.
Some cars were in the M band, the highest set by the Department of Transport to warn drivers about high levels of fuel consumption, taxation and pollution.
The ASA ruled that the advertisement should not be allowed to run in its present form.

newspaper analysis
In this particular central image on this newspaper, it shows a woman with half naked holding a banner that has the word goal across it. This central image is there to draw the audiences eyes/ attention to the woman’s body in which is half naked.
This would therefore cause the target audience of males ages in their teens and above to draw attention to this paper and purchase it. However this may not always be the case as the audience such as younger and female aged genders would not tend to capture the effectiveness of the central image on this paper.
The font is simple and large because there is not much text in the front page so by making the font larger it would be clear on the content inside. This is shown as a headline, this may be a disadvantage to the Sun as some broadsheet readers would rather have more writing for information rather than captions.
However the position of the image connotes that the writing has some importance in the caption. They use a medium/long shot of the woman which allows the caption to cover explicit areas of the body but also allow the reader to see her face arms and part of the legs. Also uses top front lighting which makes the model look more glamorous.

shaun of the dead
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfDUv3ZjH2k
Shaun of the dead is a horror comedy and it also a spoof. This is a spoof movie which means it makes a serious movie, or takes another storyline and makes it funny. It was released in 2004, and it was written by Simon Pegg and nick Frost who also started init. Simon Pegg and nick Frost are known as two of the best British movie comedians, they have also stared in there one TV show called ‘spaced; and have been in numerous TV and shows. There where many things which made this movie popular including the unique idea, the actors and the humour which is used.
The genre for the movie is horror comedy. Many things in the trailer show that it’s going to be a horror comedy. Such thing as the mise en scene the setting and lighting help suggest the genre, but the 2 main ones are the props and sound.
The lighting in this trailer is very important. The trailer contains more low key lighting then high key lighting these are used for dramatic affect. When there inside such as the apartment at the beginning they have low key lighting which would give the apartment brighter look then it should be, also the shadows are purposely put those places to show they features of the people/zombies faces. In the pub low key lighting is used again, this is more a dramatic affect. The pub is dark but just enough light to see everything, the reason this is done is to give an atmosphere and make the movie a bit spooky so this shows the genre is going to contain horror. There are many outdoor scenes in the trailer and there all contain high key lighting. When the zombies are always in the shadow while the main characters and the other characters are always in the light outside.
There are many things which contain representation in the movie. One thing is the lighting outside. The zombies are in the dark while the humans are in the light, which shows good vs. evil, also because there is more darkness then light this could show that evil is overtaking the light. Other scene is when Shaun is running in the dark with a cricket bat fighting his way trough, this could show the only way to beat the evil is fight you way trough.
The setting for this movie is nothing special; it looks like it has been shot in any regular place. It’s in a posh area, not to posh. Its looks like it shot in

Van Helsing Analysis

In Van Helsing the main props are weapons such as a sword. This connotes that the film is to do with violence. Also this helps provide an idea of what kind of genre the film is. For example the arrow gun and sword suggests that it is a violent film which would include killing or murders. These are examples of action which allow the audience to make a direct link with the genre and the props used in the advertisement, which means that when the audience see a weapon, they will link it to violence and action and will give them a better understanding of the narrative.
The characters are wearing mainly black. There is not much colour which can represent that the time period is much older, were colours were not really more than just black and grey. The main character is also in black, and is standing in front of dark clouds and a moon, which suggests that although he is the hero of the narrative, he also possess an anti-hero side to him as well, and could be seen as a villain even.
The lighting in this poster is very low key. This is seen because the atmosphere is mostly foggy and cloudy which is not natural and almost man made. This low key lighting helps show that the setting is going to have elements of dark events and evil character roles.
Van Helsing's poster has a building with a lot of cloudiness and the moon in the middle. This creates a gloomy effect as there isn't much light. This gives the impression that there is a lot of darkness throughout the film. This is an example of narrative enigma, which means that because the mis en scene is so confusing, we will make assumptions about who is or isn’t the hero or villain.
Also the two central characters have a serious expression and are looking straight ahead. This gives the impressions that are involved in something significant in the film, giving them a more important role in the storyline. There are another two characters in the background which could suggest that they are less important to the main two characters in the front. It could also signify them as the villains or characters.
